OneInfinity General Manager Robin Scott Joins CNBC Arabia's Crypto Weekly to Discuss Digital Asset Insurance and AI in Underwriting

September 23, 2025

Saudi Arabia, 23 September 2025 - Robin Scott, General Manager of Middle East at OneInfinity, joined Henri Arslanian, host of Crypto Weekly on CNBC Arabia and former PwC Global Crypto Leader, to discuss the growth of digital asset insurance, how traditional reinsurers are approaching the sector, and the role AI is playing in underwriting.

How much has digital asset insurance capacity grown?

Insurance policies covering centralized exchanges and custodians have expanded drastically over the past four years, now protecting over $1 billion in digital assets. Robin noted that underwriting availability has grown roughly 100x since inception and 10x over the last two to three years, but technical requirements have not loosened. What has changed is that institutional clients have significantly upgraded their risk management practices to meet insurer standards.

Where does DeFi stand on insurability?

Underwriters prioritized centralized entities first, and frequent protocol and cross-chain bridge hacks continue to keep DeFi premiums high. OneInfinity has published academic research on smart contract risks as part of an effort to meet the DeFi sector as security standards improve.

Are traditional reinsurers warming to digital assets?

Traditional insurance and reinsurance partners, such as Dubai Insurance in the UAE, have grown far more receptive. With climate change and physical property claims putting pressure on global reinsurers, digital property presents an attractive, non-correlated risk to diversify underwriting portfolios.

How is AI reshaping insurance underwriting?

OneInfinity is applying the same framework used for crypto to artificial intelligence, conducting penetration testing and establishing security guardrails for foundational models and LLM applications before offering coverage. Internally, the team is using AI to automate first-pass underwriting, analyzing client risk metrics on first contact and shortening the timeline from initial meeting to issuing a policy.

What could crypto insurance look like in ten years?

Robin discussed the possibility that insurance capital pools could move onto blockchain rails, with crypto holders depositing assets into decentralized risk pools to cover insurance obligations, directly matching capital providers with policyholders.
